They have continued the work on a common printing dialog for all applications and desktops under Linux and Unix. With this we want to assure that\\ \\ * All features of all printers/drivers are accessible in every application\\ * The printing dialog can also present application-specific options\\ * Once getting used to print out of application A the user knows how to print in application B\\ * The dialog is not overloaded with buttons and controls, but also not crippled in functionality\\ \\ Presentation followed by discussion\\ \\ More Info: Blog about OpenPrinting GUI Activities, OpenUsability Printing Wiki\\ | | 10:00am - 10:45am| **Printing and the Linux Standard Base (LSB)**\\ Till Kamppeter, OpenPrinting Manager, The Linux Foundation\\ \\ Joint session with LSB (it is possible that this session is held in the a different room)\\ \\ * Status of LSB 3.2 Printing requirements (Slides)\\ * Experiences writing the LSB Printing DDK (Slides)\\ | | 10:45am - 11:00am| Coffee Break| | 11:00am - 12:30am| **The OpenPrinting Working Group - State of the Projects and Planning**\\ Moderator: Ira McDonald, OpenPrinting Steering Committee Chair\\ \\ * Wendy Phillips, Sun Microsystems (PAPI; Slides)\\ * Yasumasa Toratani, Canon Inc. and Koji Otani, BBR Inc.(Japanese OP WG activities: Driver API, Status Monitor, Print Channel Manager, CUPS PDF workflow; Slides)\\ * Till Kamppeter, OpenPrinting Manager, The Linux Foundation (Ghostscript driver modularization, Foomatic; Slides)\\ \\ More info\\ \\ **Sponsors and Volunteers for implementation work are welcome!**\\ | | 12:30pm - 1:30pm| Lunch!| | 1:30pm - 3:00pm| **Linux Activities of the Printer Manufacturers**\\ Moderator: Till Kamppeter, OpenPrinting Manager, The Linux Foundation\\ \\ Presentations:\\ \\ * David Suffield, HP (Slides)\\ * Yasumasa Toratani, Canon (Slides)\\ * Glen Petrie, Epson (Slides)\\ * Atsushi Sekiguchi, Konica Minolta (via phone, slides)\\ * George Liu, Ricoh (Slides)\\ \\ In the discussion also other manufacturers are participating.\\ \\ Overview about the newest developments of the printer manufacturers, short presentations with discussion\\ | | 3:00pm - 3:15pm| Coffee Break| | 3:15pm - 4:30pm| **Creating distribution-independent printer driver packages with the LSB DDK**\\ Till Kamppeter, OpenPrinting Manager, The Linux Foundation\\ \\ (Slides)\\ \\ It is made use of the LSB to create binary printer driver packages which work with all current Linux distributions (LSB-3.1-compliant + CUPS + Ghostscript + Foomatic) of a given platform. This way driver developers, especially printer manufacturers can easily make printer drivers for Linux available with a minimum of effort and cost for testing and packaging. Both free software and closed-source packages are supported.\\ \\ A web API for querying the OpenPrinting database makes it easy for printer setup tools to automatically find and download these packages from the OpenPrinting web site. So distributions can set up printers for which they do not ship drivers, either because the driver is not free, newer than the distro release, ... Also distributions need not take care any more to ship all existing printer drivers.\\ \\ Every printer will just work, independent of the distribution.\\ \\ Presentation followed by discussion\\ \\ More info: Announcement on mailing list, User instructions, Developer HOWTO, Documentation for database query web API, Driver database with some driver packages\\ | | 4:30pm - 5:00pm| **Wrap-up**\\ \\ \\ | \\
