__**[[chaoss:metrics|<< Back to CHAOSS Metrics Committee]]**__ ====== Meeting Minutes 2017-06-06 ====== Start 13:03; End: 13:28 (CT) ===== How to encourage more industry engagement on our monthly call? ===== * We are reaching out to other foundations. * Does it make sense to include more traditional industry? * yes, Intel e.g. has diversity initiatives * Based on our conversations, industry people are interested in metrics, especially in the technical community * Does it make sense to approach and invite individual people? * We want to coordinate who contacts whom, to not overload people * Kate and Matt will coordinate the outreach ===== CHAOSS Governance document ===== * For the most part, the governance document is finished * We would like other foundations to give input, to make the initiative a true industry-wide effort * Kate is contacting other foundations * We don't know yet if the tool side (CHAOSS Tool Committee) has signed off on the governance document * No major items appear to be outstanding ===== Advancing the four initial metrics ===== * Linux Con / OSS Summit: Proposal is put in to have a workshop for the value-driven metric "Project Growth - Maturity - Decline" * What is the way forward? * Missouri is actively working on implementing it * Is there a way for sharing even a rough draft with the group? * A mockup will be sent to the mailing list for discussion, in advance to OSS Summit * Assumption is that people will not trust the metrics: * The challenge is to make metrics trustable, * E.g. find similar project to focal project and compare the, for example, starting phase... * Radar graph is one approach, another is using a baseline * Wiki looks much better. * How do you minimize the many individual metrics on the maturity value-driven metric * Maybe do this during the OSS Summit * How do we carve a path, so that people can start believing or disbelieving metrics? * "Integrate early and often" perspective drove above question * We are very interested in figuring out, what the metrics could be, * The code Committee and Missouri are two tooling groups that instantiate the metrics * The people can then use the instantiations as a way to understand the metrics * OPNFV has been working with Bitergia for 2+ years. There is plenty of data to start piloting with the OPNFV community. ===== Future events to target ===== * Are there are other events that we want to target? Non-LF events? * OSCON in Austin ... there is a community manager track (was in May 2017) * Bitergia is involved there, and there is a metrics track * Maybe take part in the pre-conference event by Bitergia where they do a full day of metrics: GrimoireCon North America * FOSDEM in Brussels (February) * CFP is in November for February, speakers are notified around Christmas * Bitergia is hosting the GrimoireCon Europe prior to FOSDEM * Mining Software Repositories (ACM Conference/Workshop) * Was in Argentina last year, maybe next year. * Is more academic oriented ===== Miscellaneous ===== * Next meeting will be July 11 (4th of July is a U.S. national holiday) ===== Attendance ===== (alphabetical by first name) * Derek Howard * Georg Link * Kevin Lumbard * Matt Germonprez * Matt Levy * Peter Monks * Ray Pike * Sean Goggins
