======  Olaf Schmidt to Address Accessibility at KDE's Free Software Desktop Summit (Akademy2008), August 9-15, 2008 ======

**[[:accessibility:start|Open Accessibility Workgroup]]** member and KDE Accessibility expert, **Olaf Schmidt** will be presenting a paper entitled, //**[[http://akademy2008.kde.org/conference/presentation/44.php|Standardising Accessibility - A Game Changer for Free Software?]]**// at the **[[http://akademy2008.kde.org/|KDE's Free Software Desktop Summit (Akademy2008)]]**, which is being held from 9 to 15 August 2008, at Sint-Katelijne-Waver, Belgium.  The first part of Olaf's talk consists of an overview of typical accessibility barriers in software. The second part of Olaf's presentation will be a description of current accessibility standardisation activities ([[:accessibility:start|Open Accessibility]] of [[https://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/Main_Page|The Linux Foundation]]; W3C Accessibility; Microsoft and AIA) and their relevance to KDE.

**Olaf Schmidt** has been involved with KDE Accessibility since 2002. Since then, he has often represented KDE at standardisation meetings and in technical talks with other accessibility teams. He is a founding member of the [[:accessibility:start|Open Accessibility Workgroup]] at the [[https://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/Main_Page|The Linux Foundation]].
